"Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama..." to Pensacola, Ocean City, baby, why don't we go?
Well, if travel search site Hipmunk.com were rewriting The Beach Boys' "Kokomo," the above lyric could very well make it into the final cut. "With the unique ability to show vacation rentals side-by-side with hotels in a search, Hipmunk dug into the data to figure out where and when to get the best long weekend deals for every weekend this summer," the travel site explained in regards to their latest findings. Based on their research, Pensacola, Florida is the best summer steal out of Southern vacation spots, with vacation rentals 49% cheaper than the average price for the weekend of July 27th.
Ocean City, Maryland asserts itself as the second best deal with vacation rentals coming in 44% lower than average the weekend of June 29th. Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach also boasted serious deals the weekends of August 4th and July 14th, respectively.
No surprises here: Based on their research, Hipmunk deems it best to skip the holiday weekends for your summer vacation getaway. According to their data, Memorial Day hotels averaged $194, 37% higher than the average summer price and vacation rentals shot up 16% to $148. Later in the summer, Labor Day hotels averaged $171, up 20% percent and and vacation rentals hit $150, an increase of 17%.
See ya in Pensacola.
