Acapulco tourism officials have reiterated that the destination is operating normally and safe for visitors in wake of an overhaul of the city's police and security organizations.

The State of Guerrero recently implemented new leadership and supervision as well as best practices for the recruitment, training, and operations of police and security forces with the help of federal entities in an effort to guarantee safety conditions for visitors and residents.

The proactive measures were completed before the inauguration of a new municipal administration on October 1.

The destination can now shift its focus toward wowing tourists, who will have many reasons to visit this fall and in the months to come.

Acapulco just recently hosted the Mexican Petroleum Congress, one of the largest conventions in the country with more than 15,000 participants and expects to welcome at least 29 cruise ships during the upcoming cruise season.

The destination saw an 11 percent rise in visitors this past summer, mirroring Mexico's growth overall.

Visitors to Acapulco this fall can look forward to the third annual Jetsurf Acapulco October 12-14. The unique and thrilling showcase features surfing atop motorized boards.

Meanwhile, The Banyan Tree Cabo Marques will host a "Cuisine for the Senses" imagined by Chef Rurik Salazar on October 19 and November 23. Also in October, more than 2,000 runners will descend on the resort city for the third edition of the Xtrail Challenge October 27-28.

Foodies will want to stick around for the ninth edition of Festival de Pescado y Mariscos (Fish and Seafood Festival), which will feature a sensational menu created by Executive Chef Jorge Pereiro and others at Hotel Elcano November 23-24.

Fall visitors can also catch the Orquesta Filarmonica de Acapulco in action at various times this fall and winter during one of its 20th Anniversary Concert performances.

Finally, the excitement will culminate with an unrivaled New Year's celebration featuring music, cuisine and an extravagant firework display over Acapulco Bay.
