Company says opening of Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is the start of a new wave of wellbeing in the tropical archipelago oasis.

Westin is preparing to debut a property on a coral island in the Republic of Maldives.
The company announced today that it's set to launch The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort, a property developed by Belluna Co. Ltd, Japan and Asia Capital PLC, Sri Lanka.
Westin did not indicate exactly when the new Maldives property will open.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Westin brand to the Maldives, strengthening our presence in the Asia Pacific,” Mike Fulkerson, vice president, brand and marketing, Marriott International Asia Pacific, said in a statement. “The opening of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is a significant addition to our portfolio underscoring a transformative and meaningful wellness proposition for travelers, who are increasingly prioritizing well-being even while on the road.”
The upcoming resort will be located in the Baa Atoll, a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site.
It will offer a tranquil escape highlighted by uninterrupted ocean and turquoise lagoon views. Popular Maldives landmarks such as the Hanifaru Bay, known for being the largest gathering of manta rays globally, are in close proximity to the property.
Design of the resort’s décor and villas was led by Milan-based architects PEIA Associati and takes inspiration from the ocean and the environment. To that end, the property features the use of natural materials, (such as unique shells) and elements based on the movement and flow of marine life, providing guests with a link to the region’s exceptional enchantment.
An added feature that many guests will likely miss, the aerial view of Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort reveals that the property has been designed in the shape of a fish. Even the arrival jetty has been structured to resemble clamshells and the oceans’ waves.
The property will include 70 villas and suites, 41 on the island and 29 over water. Each villa is shaped with an eco-friendly double roofing to create natural ventilation. Villas also feature outdoor rainforest showers.
As for the luxe overwater suites, they offer an area of almost 200 square meters each, among the largest in the Baa Atoll region.
The resort will also offer three unique dining experiences. The Pearl is to be the resort’s specialty restaurant, serving Japanese cuisine and featuring ocean views. The menu will focus on seafood and fresh local ingredients.
All-day dining will be offered at Island Kitchen, where the Westin's Eat Well brand pillar will be featured through a balanced menu combining Chinese, Indian and Maldivian fare.
At Hawker, guests can sample authentic Asian street food with a live kitchen in a casual atmosphere.
Adjacent to the Library and overlooking the azure blue Indian Ocean, Sunset Bar is to be a relaxed lounge serving tapas and imaginative cocktails.
The idyllic resort will also feature Westin’s signature branded spa concept, theHeavenly Spa by Westin, where anintimate and serene ambiance is aimed at allowing guests to reflect on their destination.
Additional property features include a two-level, 24-hour WestinWORKOUT Fitness Studio and Westin Family Kids Club.
One last drool-worthy highlight, directly from the beach, guests will be able to explore the house reef with colorful corals surrounded by thousands of tropical fish.
Miriandhoo is a turtle sanctuary, and guests can easily and often see turtles nesting along its white beaches. Meanwhile, reef sharks, lionfish, manta rays and often whale sharks all reside in the Baa Atoll.
